Myrrh had great value when Jesus was born because you could use it to clean your teeth, put on your skin and even help keep you from getting sick. But the wise men were also giving a symbolic gift. Jesus was sent to earth as a baby, but He was sent with a mission. His mission was to die for our salvation. Myrrh was also like a lotion they would put on bodies when they were buried.
My niece gave me a gift of lotion this year that is now my new favorite! Maybe it’s the stars on the bottle, the name, or just the fact that it was a gift of lotion on the year that I am blogging about this … but today, you can put lotion on and thank Jesus for dying for your sins!
THIS is the TRUE GIFT – that Jesus came to die for our sins! During the days leading up to Jesus’ death, is the story behind the famous song from my favorite artist: ALABASTER BOX – CECE WINANS. It makes this story personal. She anoints Jesus with oil and Jesus responds by saying:
She has poured this perfume on me to prepare my body for burial.Matthew 26:12 (NLT)
